Coronavirus: Managing Transition Toolkit #7 Looking after families and mental health during Covid-19

Wellbeing – What does it mean?

Wellbeing is the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy.

Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do at Southwick Community Primary School.

Our Whole School Approach to Mental Health

We learn about how to look after our physical, emotional and social wellbeing through our Jigsaw curriculum and the Zones of Regulation programme.

In school we have a Wellbeing Manager – Mrs J. Laverick and a Mental Health Lead – Mrs H. Ellison.

If you have any concerns do not hesitate to contact either of them for support.

In our school we use The Zones of Regulation to enable our children to recognise, name and manage their feelings and emotions. The Zones are embedded in our whole school ethos and children have been armed with tools and strategies to support them when feeling a range of emotions to get them back into the Green Zone, which is the optimal zone for learning to take place.

Here is a short video starring our wonderful Wellbeing Ambassadors Louis and Olivia to promote the Mental Health Charter Mark and World Mental Health Day.

Lilley Addison in Year 6 wrote a lovely poem about emotions-thank you Lilley and well done!
