Look what we’ve been up to

Year 5 investigating materials as insulators…

Today we looked at the properties of materials and how good they would be keeping heat in. We put hot water in cups wrapped in different materials and measured the temperature using thermometers-we were amazing investigators!

Year One-Space Week

This week, Year 1 blasted off into Space Week! We’ve been exploring what it’s like to live in space and imagining what astronauts do every day and where they stay when they are in space. We watched lots of clips of astronauts doing everyday things in space like brushing teeth and talked about how different it is to doing this on earth. The children thought

Year 3 – Dirt puddings

As part of our science topic, we have been learning about different soils. We made our very own dirt puddings to represent the different soil layers.

Year 5 giving compliments for World Mental Health Day

Year 5 wrote compliments for year 6 and made their day when we handed them out!

Year 3 – Space Week

Year 3 have thoroughly enjoyed Space Week.  We have been learning about what it is like to live in space.  We have watched videos from the ISS and looked at how they carry out every day activities such as; brushing their teeth, eating their breakfast and even how they go to the toilet!  The children have been very enthusiastic and asked lots of great questions.

We then looked at the extreme temperatures that astronauts are exposed to and how their suits protect them.  We investigated which material is best to keep ice cool for the longest period of time in order to conclude which material would be best to use for an astronaut suit.

Handa’s Surprise – week 4

This week we had a wonderful time celebrating Harvest Festival! We began by reading Handa’s Surprise and learning about lots of different fruits and vegetables. The children shared their favourites and practised their oracy skills by explaining why they liked them. We learned about Harvest and why it is important to thank farmers for the food they grow. We also talked about how harvest

Year 4 Space week

This week we have been learning about living in space for Space Week. We discussed what it would be like to travel into space and what you would need to wear. To test what material would be best for a spacesuit we conducted an experience to see which materials melt ice the fastest using metal, plastic, fabric and paper. We found the fabric was

Year 5 STEMFEST!

Some of our Year 5 children had a great day at STEMFEST. They enjoyed taking part in a variety of interactive workshops, presentations, exhibitions, and competitions that celebrated the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).

Year 5 separating in science

In our ‘changing materials’ topic we moved onto separating materials using evaporation, sieves, magnets and filter paper. We investigated how to separate salt and water, rice and sand and rice and paper clips-we had a great time!

Year 5 Science Week…

Today we looked at gravity and it’s effect on astronauts. We looked at how long it took different objects to fall and recorded our results. We then looked at Galileo and his experiment-we had a great time!
