Year 1-Week 7-Art and Diwali

In Year 1 art lessons, the children have been exploring the world of colour through the seasons and discussing all the different colours we might see through the four seasons. We began by identifying primary and secondary colours, learning how to mix primary colour paints to make secondary colours. We discovered how adding white or black can create tints and shades, and experimented with different hues to see how colours can change. These lessons have helped the children build confidence in colour mixing while developing their creativity and understanding of colour in the world around them.

Also, in Year 1 this week, the class came together to celebrate Diwali, the Festival of Lights! The children were introduced to the story of Rama and Sita, learning about its significance in Hindu tradition. They discussed how both Hindus and Sikhs prepare for and celebrate the festival each and made comparisons to Christians and how they celebrate Christmas.

To get into the festive spirit, the children coloured in beautiful Diya lamps and labelled the different parts. They also worked on their fine motor skills and by tracing and drawing intricate mehndi patterns using lots of bright colours.
