Year 4 make bread like Anglo-Saxons

This term in History we are learning all about the Anglo-Saxons. We have been exploring what village life would have been like and discussing the types of food they would eat and how they would source their food. We learnt that the Anglo-Saxons made bread just using flour and water, we decided to try it and see whether we thought it was as nice as our bread today. The children used their estimation skills to measure the correct quantities of flour to water, before kneading and shaping the bread. We then went out onto the firepit and cooked the bread before tasting it. We thought it was nice, but not as nice as our bread and it was also a little burnt!
