What is in my world – week 7

To end our enquiry about “What Is in Our World?”, we learned about the festival of Diwali, which is celebrated by many people around the world. We explored how Diwali is known as the Festival of Lights and how it celebrates light overcoming darkness and good winning over evil.

Learning about Diwali helped us understand that our world is made up of many different people, cultures, and traditions. We talked about how people celebrate in different ways, such as lighting lamps, sharing sweets, wearing special clothes, and spending time with family.

As part of our learning about Diwali, we read the story of Rama and Sita. The children really enjoyed finding out how Rama rescued Sita and how good triumphed over evil. We had great fun acting out the story together and taking turns to be Rama, Sita, Hanuman, and the evil Ravana.

To celebrate Diwali, we took part in lots of colourful and creative activities. We made our own Diva lamps using saltdough.

We also created beautiful Rangoli patterns, using coloured rice, sand, and sequins to decorate our classroom floor.

Everyone loved dressing up in brightly coloured clothes and the room was full of sparkle and smiles! We explored colour in different ways, mixing paints and using materials to make our artwork shine.

As part of our Diwali celebrations, we toasted marshmallows over a small fire. The children were very excited to watch the flames and see how the fire gave off light and warmth. We talked about how this light reminded us of Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, and how people celebrate by lighting lamps and candles. Toasting marshmallows was a fun and cosy way to enjoy the light from the fire while thinking about the meaning of Diwali. We celebrated goodness, warmth, and togetherness.

Our Diwali celebrations were a wonderful way to end our enquiry into “What Is in Our World?”. The children loved learning about different traditions and enjoyed sharing their ideas about light, colour, and kindness. Through our activities, we discovered that our world is full of beautiful celebrations and that, no matter where we come from, we can all share joy, friendship, and togetherness.
