Nursery Rhyme Week

We had an exciting and musical week celebrating Nursery Rhyme Week! The children loved learning and singing a different rhyme each day. We started with “London’s Burning”, which became even more special when local firefighters visited to show us their equipment and talk about fire safety. We also explored the weather with “I Hear Thunder” and even created our own weather songs full of rain, sunshine, and lots of imagination! Our week continued with plenty of giggles as we sang “Incy Wincy Spider” and finished with “Five Currant Buns” and yes, we enjoyed some delicious currant buns of our own! It was a wonderful week of singing, learning and having fun together.

Children in Need

We had a fantastic time taking part in Children in Need this year! The children enjoyed a fun-filled day of activities, dressing up, and learning about the importance of helping others. Together with our wonderful families and staff, we raised awareness—and plenty of smiles—for a cause that makes a real difference to children across the UK. Thank you to everyone who took part and supported our fundraising efforts. Your kindness helps brighten futures!

Remembrance Day

In Nursery, we marked Remembrance Day with simple, activities that helped our little ones learn about kindness and remembrance. The children created red poppy artwork, joined in a quiet moment of reflection, and listened to gentle stories about helping others. It was a meaningful way to honour the day and remind us all to be thankful and helpful.

Odd Sock Day

As part of Anti-bully week, we have taken part in Odd sock day to remind us that everyone is different. We also worked together to develop a Nursery Kindness charter which will help us to remember all the ways we can use are power for good! We also played a match game in PE where we had to find our friend who had the matching sock to ours. It was lots of fun and helped us to recognise different patterns and make new friends.

Outdoor Learning Day

Nursery love learning outdoors this term, we have especially loved investigating the change of season and seeing all of the signs of Autumn in our garden. We spend time in the forest playing amongst the trees. We climb on climbing frame to really strengthen our arm and leg muscles and help our balance and resilience. We perform shows on our stage, dressing up and playing the musical instruments, we love to invite our grownups in school to watch. Our sand pit is always busy as we love to dig and make sandcastles. We get so messing in the mud kitchen making mud pies, hot chocolate or potions. This week was outdoor learning day so we spent all of our time outside, Mrs Pattison challenged us to a colour match game in which we had to find items in the garden that matched the colours she had given us. We were very confident with green and brown and we found lots of leaves and flowers to match, we made sure we looked closely and talked about what shade we could see. Outside time is most definitely our favourite part of the day.

Bonfire Night

This week nursery have been learning all about the celebration of bonfire night and the history and traditions of this celebration. Nursery have been learning all about Guy Fawkes and the gunpowder plot. We have been creating our very own firework drawings using chalk and painting with forks and have been mark making patterns in the sand. Nursery have enjoyed making their own chocolate sparklers and firework toast exploring a range of colours and patterns. In the reading area we have enjoyed reading lots of books all about bonfire night.

Happy Halloween

Nursery have loved the celebration of Halloween. We enjoyed listening to the story of ‘Room on the broom’. Nursery have also been making potions and casting spells in the role play area. We enjoyed dressing up in our Halloween costumes, making spider biscuits and leaning how to play fun games of pass the pumpkin and musical statues. We have made lots of fun crafts, got creative with the playdough to make spooky creatures and explored the textures of a pumpkin in our tuff tray area. The best part was all the dancing we did at our disco!!

Financial Literacy Day

Nursery have taken part in Financial literacy week along with the rest of the school to help us begin to understand that we can make choices about what to do with what we have, save, share, or spend. Our hedgehog friend had 5 conkers and we needed to decide if we would eat them all, share with a friend or save some for later. We were all fantastic at this and every one of us shared some with a friend and were very sensible and saved some for another day. I was very proud of how generous we all were.

Diwali

This week we have been learning all about the celebration of Diwali, the Hindu festival of light. We have enjoyed learning all about their traditions of the celebration. We have been learning all about the story of Rama and Sita and retelling the story using props. We even built bridges to help get Rama off the island. Nursery have enjoyed making their own Rangoli patterns using rice, sand and powder paint. We made our very own Diya lamps and designed our own mehndi patterns. We had fun listening and dancing to Hindu music and learning some of the dance moves. Nursery have enjoyed taking part in this celebration.

My 5 Senses

In Nursery we have been learning about our 5 senses. We have enjoyed taste testing different foods and describing how they taste. We have taken part in Autumn sound walks and activities where we have listened closely to the different sounds we may hear during the autumn period such as wind, rain, wind chimes, birds etc. In Nursery we have used our senses of smell in the playdough area where we had cinnamon and spearmint scented playdough. We have used our sense of touch and sight to see and feel different autumn objects in our Autumn feel bag and in the tuff tray exploring the pumpkins. We also went outside and used our sense of sight to collect autumn treasures and to see different signs of Autumn such as spider webs, leaves etc.

Space Week

This week has been Space Week in School and we have been learning all about the stars in Space.

Nursery have loved reading the book “How to catch a star” and retelling the story, trying to catch our very own star, we’ve made stars in the creative area and made a huge rocket which we could blast up to space in.

Mrs Pattison showed us how to make our very own moon rock, we stirred in the ingredients and dipped in the cotton wool, it was very slimy then we cooked it in the oven and it went hard!! We had the best time smashing up the rocks with the hammers.

We have also enjoyed reading a range of both fiction and non-fiction books in the reading area. We used Google earth to explore and learn all about the planet we live on. We have had so much fun watching videos of astronauts in space and the way they live and eat in space without gravity!

In PE we became astronauts, we practiced our moon walking and had so much fun doing this.

We have also enjoyed building rockets in the construction area, exploring the spaced themes tuff tray, making stars and planets in the playdough area.

Harvest Festival

To celebrate Harvest the boys and girls in Nursery have been learning all about farms and what they produce for us to eat. We have become farmers digging and planting our own vegetables in the tough tray. We have loved learning new harvest songs and have had lots of fun dancing to the ‘Harvest Samba’. We have used vegetables in our creative area, producing some brilliant patterns using celery sticks and carrots. We’ve made vegetables in our play dough area, role played with the tractors and read lots of stories. We have enjoyed this celebration.

We have been reading ‘The Enormous Turnip’ learning all about growing crops and how working together as a community benefits us all. We acted out the story, used our senses to investigate lots of vegetables as well as cutting and tasting them. We loved the turnip but did not like the celery as much!
