Bonfire Night

This week we have looked at bonfire night and why we celebrate it. We briefly looked at the gunpowder plot story, spoke about how firefighters help us and ways to stay safe. We looked at and named different clothing and decided which clothing was the most appropriate to wear on bonfire night. We have also looked at and watched different firework and bonfire videos and discussed the shape, noise, size and colour. We have learnt lots of new topic words to describe the fireworks. We also had the opportunity to explore our instruments and to play these along to a firework display video- we spoke about loud and quiet noises and experiment with our instruments.

We then made our very own small-scale fireworks by printing using card and fluorescent paint. This week we have also looked at the famous artist Jackson Pollock and created some large-scale pieces of art work with chalk and bicarbonate soda- this was so much fun!

Whilst learning about bonfire night we have also been developing our gross and fine motor skills. We have pretended to be fireworks with pieces of material and also completed some cosmic yoga. In order to develop our finger strength, we have completed numerous finger gym activities, we have particularly enjoyed our firework playdough disco session “Baby you’re a fire work!”.

We have also enjoyed creating our very own sparklers using breadsticks, melted chocolate and sprinkles- they were very tasty!
