Celebrating Science

Year 5 Science Week

Year 5 looked at the effects of air resistance and gravity on falling objects and investigated the time it took for an object to fall. We then looked at Galileo’s experiment and were shocked! We had a great time!

Science Week 2025

We have all thoroughly enjoyed celebrating British Science Week in school. The theme was ‘Change and Adapt’ and we thought it would be a good idea to focus on something relevant to ourselves and our planet, therefore, we decided to have a whole school focus on climate change. Visit the link to see a snippet of what we’ve all been up to! https://www.southwickprimary.co.uk/lowdown/science-week-2025/

Year 4 electric cards!

Year 4 have linked their scientific knowledge of constructing electrical circuits with design and technology to create their own Christmas cards that light up!

Year 3 Magnets and Forces

Year 3 have been learning all about forces and magnets in their science lessons. To bring their learning together, they worked together to design magnetic games.

Year 4 Electricity

This week. we used our prior knowledge of circuits to introduce using a switch-we didn’t tell the children how to use them, they investigated, problem solved and worked it out themselves-they were amazing! The children then decided to make a human circuit and test whether they could light a bulb-they soon realised our bodies don’t have the same effect as a battery!

Space Week!

We have enjoyed celebrating Space Week again this year. Take a look at some of the things we’ve been up to throughout school. The theme this year was space and climate change.
