Y3 Visit to Broom house Farm

This week, we had a fantastic visit to Broomhouse Working Farm, a huge 1,000-acre working farm. The children had a wonderful time exploring, learning and getting up close to farm life.

We explored the trees and searched for conkers, learning that they come from the horse chestnut tree, and enjoyed the beautiful views across the countryside. In the orchard, we learned how to safely pick up wind-blown apples and discovered how the farm is self-sufficient, selling some of its products and using others to help feed the animals.

We learned all about the farm’s hidden beehives and how bees produce different types of honey, such as wildflower and heather honey, depending on where the hives are located.

A real highlight was taking a tractor and trailer ride around the farm, where we got to see the beautiful Aberdeen Angus cows. We also fed apples to the pigs and piglets and learned how goats use their horns and natural behaviours to pull out roots and clear vegetation.

To finish our experience, Mrs Wake bought some of the farm’s delicious burgers and sausages for us to cook and enjoy back at school!

Most importantly, the children’s behaviour was excellent throughout the whole trip. They were polite, respectful, listened carefully and represented Southwick brilliantly. They were truly amazing role models for Southwick, and we are incredibly proud of them.

What a fantastic day full of learning, fun and wonderful memories! 🌟
