Hello and Welcome to Year 1!
In Year 1, we are taught by Mrs Hanna and Mrs Dennison. Supporting us in class is Miss Banks.
Summer 2026
This term, we will continue to develop our reading skills using the Little Wandle Programme.
In maths, this half term we are exploring measurement and multiplication. In our curriculum lessons, we will be focussing on the local area and where we live, in science we will look at plants and in history we will explore Sunderland seaside, 100 years ago.
This is a reminder that the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check will take place during the week commencing 8th June 2026. It is important that all children are in school every day that week so the assessments can be completed smoothly.
Please ensure your child attends school punctually throughout this period.

Homework
Year 1 will be given log ins for ‘NumBots’, an online platform, enabling children to build skills in understanding, recall and fluency in mental addition and subtraction. Children are encouraged to complete the challenges at home and prizes will be rewarded in school.
If your child has any problems with their homework, please pop in to see us, we are always happy to help!
P.E.
Year 1 will be doing PE on a Thursday morning this term. All children must wear their full school PE kit and trainers or plimsoles. All earrings must be removed at home before a PE day.
Home Reading Books
Year 1 home reading books and spellings are given out after their third reading session in school.
Please keep returning your child’s reading books so we can give you a new one.
