Hello and Welcome to Year 5!
In Year 5, we are taught by Mrs Smith, Miss Slater, Mrs Beresford and Miss Forster. Mr Curd also supports us in class.
Autumn Term
This term, in history, we will be studying the impact of World War Two in Sunderland and we have some exciting lessons and activities planned! In science, we will be learning all about Properties and Changes of Materials and, later in the term, Forces. Our geography topic involves looking at energy and how we power the world. We will look at energy use across the globe and renewable and non-renewable sources too. Our art lessons will be focusing on the work of artist L.S. Lowry. Later in the term, we will be designing and making our own moving toys in DT. We are also very excited for our PE lessons where we are going to be developing our skills in badminton and dance.

P.E.
Year 5 P.E will take place on a Friday. To participate fully in PE, children will need: a white t-shirt, blue shorts and a pair of plimsolls/ trainers. All jewellery MUST be removed for P.E lessons.
Later in the year we will be having swimming lessons at The Aquatic Centre but we will send a letter out closer to the time.
Home Reader
It is expected for children to read at home at least 3 times a week and get their book signed. Children should return their book and parent book to school daily, so they have the opportunity to read with adults in school. When children have completed a book, they will be able to complete a quiz in school based on the book they have read. These results will be recorded in your child’s home reader. Points and prizes will be awarded for completing quizzes.
Children have an Accelerated Reader password and user name. Use this link to access the quizzes!
