Over the Spring and Summer Term, Miss Smith, along with years 3 and 4, did gardening as part of their star club activities on Friday afternoons. The children planted vegetables and flowers and took great care of our raised beds. The vegetables grown were used in our school kitchen.
The Sunderland in Bloom competition is very much part of the City events diary and takes place at the Roker Hotel with the Mayor and Lady Mayoress presenting the prizes. The Award celebrates the fantastic work produced to make our areas more beautiful with their floral displays. The 13 categories are best kept garden, allotment, pub, business school gardens, community display and park and each category is divided into the 5 different ward areas.
Miss Smith and her group did an amazing job winning the Sunderland North Area Schools category and won a silver cup which we keep for a year, an engraved trophy and a £25 gift voucher for Clays Garden Centre.
I’m sure the children will enjoy a visit to the garden centre to decide what we are spending it on.
